Black History Month
We will be celebrating Black History Month at Charters next week across all year groups.
ASSEMBLIES
Our assemblies will focus on Black History Month & Race with a focus on the history of derogatory language regarding the people of African / African-Caribbean origins.
These assemblies will be very impactful and will create a discussion at home. If you would like resources to support this discussion at home, please use the links below:

CAREERS
Unifrog is hosting a webinar on Tuesday 9th October at 5pm to explore what Black History Month means to the creative industry.
Join Nakisha Kiely, a graphic designer, and Olivia Twist, an illustrator and lecturer, to learn about what it means to be a Black creative, including how they overcome the micro- and macro-aggressions they face in the industry.
Students have been sent a link from Unifrog to their school email address to enable them to access the webinar.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Year Group Councils met for the first time this academic year with a range of questions to be considered and discussed.
Two themes linked to Black History Month & Race were:
- Inclusivity in our school – not limited to but including race, religion, disability.
- Racist language used in school, and whether students believe it is intended to cause hurt and distress to students of colour.
Black History Month is about raising awareness of the contribution Black people have made to our freedoms, culture and society.
