European Day of Languages
This week the Year 10 MFL Leaders have been helping our school celebrate the European Day of Languages during assemblies. The Leaders created a fun and interactive presentation which highlighted the many benefits of being able to speak an additional language; from making it easier to communicate with locals during a gap year, to the fact that being able to speak an additional language can raise your earning potential by up to £6,000!
They also explained that by learning a language we are all better equipped to appreciate a country's culture, opening doors to a new world of experiences. Not only is knowledge of a foreign language highly valued by employers, but so too is cultural awareness and general communication skills.
Finally, the Leaders showed the year groups how Spanish is spoken in over 20 countries, (many of them in Central and South America and the Caribbean) and that French is spoken in over 29 countries, (including Canada, Africa and South America) meaning that the ability to work overseas can become a reality for those who have a language skill.
We would like to thank the MFL department and the Language Leaders for putting together such an engaging set of assemblies.
