Year 10 Return to Salamanca
Year 10 students enjoyed a wonderful week in Spain, immersed in the Spanish language and culture on the first homestay visit since 2019.
Their destination was Salamanca, three hours west of Madrid, a historic city with a university dating back to the 1200s – think Oxford or Cambridge, but a lot further south.
Students gained maximum exposure to the Spanish language by staying with host families and studying each morning at Colegio Delibes.
Further opportunities for interactive learning, included a visit to Salamanca’s famous central market and a photo-rally round the old town, when students asked local people for information to complete a series of challenges.
Other activities included a guided tour of Salamanca’s Plaza Mayor and old town, as well as learning how to whip up tasty tortilla and sparkling (alcohol-free!) sangría.
When it came to the salsa session, the students impressed the Cuban dance expert who oversaw their every paso and cucaracha.
Throughout the trip, the students were accompanied by Miss Fernández and trip leader Mr Wightman.
Mr Wightman said: “We were delighted to see the enjoyment and progress of the students throughout the week.
They threw themselves into all aspects of the experience with enthusiasm and courtesy.
The positivity of the students - and their parents - made the trip a great success.”
