Living Wall Created
Last Summer the Science department ran a competition with The Sunninghill Trust based on increasing biodiversity around the school site.
The winning projects from each Tutor group were presented to the whole year group, with Mr Will Dalton (Trustee of The Sunninghill Trust), Miss Lawson (Head of Science) and Mr Fletcher acting as judges.
The standard was extremely high, with well-researched and thought-though projects that demonstrated sustainability.
The winning project focused on creating a Living Wall in school to help encourage bees and other pollinating insects, and reduce the heat radiation off hard surfaces. This week Henry, who came up with the idea, planted the wall with the school's Eco Society. The students planted a range of herbs and flowers which are appealing to both bees and butterfies.
As the wall is situated close to the Food rooms it is hoped that students will be able to use the herbs in their recipes once the plants have become established.
We would like to thank The Sunninghill Trust for sponsoring this wonderful project and Henry for his incredible research and foresight.
