Year 7 student Elisa competed at the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships in Birmingham last weekend.  The event organised by Pentathlon GB saw around 1200 athletes taking part at the Abbey Stadium, Redditch.

Students who had qualified through regional events were invited to take part in the finals, where they competed in an individual swim and run, with the quickest times accumulating the most points.

Elisa did really well in both her events, gaining new personal bests in each - an improvement in the run by over 10 seconds!

Elisa summarised how the day went for her...

"When heat 90 of the 50m swimming race was called, my nerves built up. Thankfully, breaking my personal best, I came 6th overall out of 98.

Before my running race, obviously I felt fairly nervous. I had to run 800m but once it had begun, I felt I had gone off to a good start. Finishing 6th in my heat and also breaking my personal best, it was only in a matter of time before the results were out. Out of 98 people in my age group, I managed to come 36th."

We asked Elisa which of the events she preferred, to which she replied, "Since I am a competitive swimmer, it is one of my preferred sports and therefore comes easier to me than the running."

Well done to Elisa for achieving her two new personal bests and we hope she goes on to have a great season, and perhaps break a few more PBs along the way.
