Year 12 Students part of Winning Team at UK Space Design Competition
Last weekend, Mr Morgan-John accompanied Lauren, Libby and Natalia in Year 12 to the National Finals of the UK Space Design Competition. Having won their regional heat back in November, the students were invited to the Finals which were held at Imperial College, London.
After a gruelling 13 hour day on Saturday, followed by an early start on Sunday, we are incredibly proud to report that Lauren, Libby and Natalia were part of the winning team.
They summed up their experience at the event for us:
“As part of the UK Space Design Competition, we were put into one of four teams of about 60 students each from a range of schools who also were part of winning regional teams and asked to design a space station that orbits the sun. Within our team we then split ourselves into a range of groups including structural engineering, human factors, operations, automation, and marketing and were then given points that our relative groups had to cover in a final presentation. The competition lasted from 10AM – 10PM but most people worked into the night, trying to make our presentation as professional and viable as possible. Our team won the competition, and we learnt a lot from the other people who had competed before. It was a challenging educational experience and I hope we can do it again next year and get more people involved”.
Congratulations to Lauren, Libby and Natalia for their hard work over the two days which ultimately led to their success.
