National Careers Week 2023
National Careers Week (NCW) is an annual one-week celebration of careers guidance in education and we wanted to share with you just a few of the visitors and events we have planned throughout the week.
On Monday we will be welcoming one of our past students who will be speaking with Year 7 students about her life as an undergraduate at the University of Reading, where she is currently studying Modern Foreign Languages. The Managing Director of Zscaler Inc. will also be popping into Charters on Monday to give students an insight into the company's Merger and Acquisition practice.
Students in Sixth Form will be joined by the Transformation Director of the British Red Cross who was once a student at Charters. She will be talking about her amazing career journey, despite her disappointment on A Level results day, and explaining that hard work and determination, alongside choosing something that you are passionate about, is the key to success.
Throughout the week we will welcome visitors who will be sharing their career journeys, including one person who started her career as a Criminal Defence Lawyer, moved into television, and then developed a successful career as a tech start-up entrepreneur.
Our guest speaker on Thursday will be the Head of Education at Arsenal Football Club who will lead a careers talk in the Lecture Theatre during 2nd break.
As well as in-person presentations we will also be chatting virtually with one of our alumni who is currently studying at the Royal Veterinary College.
In keeping with our commitment to provide Charters students with outstanding careers guidance throughout the year, all students have access to Unifrog which enables them to compare every university course and apprenticeship, alongside Further Education courses.
We are also working with the charity Future First to help us connect with former students, local businesses and parents/carers to inspire our current students. It can be daunting for students to imagine their future career path, but by sharing your experiences since leaving full time education, you could help to motivate and inspire them to feel more confident in making decisions about their future.
