Japanese Calligrapher and Artist Akemi Lucas Visits Charters
We were delighted to welcome Akemi Lucas, Japanese calligrapher and artist, to Charters on Wednesday 22 February.
Akemi-sensei led two different workshops, the first for Year 12 Soul Creativity and Japanese Enrichment students. They enjoyed trying their hand at drawing bamboo sticks and leaves through sumi-e ink painting.
As Akemi says “we may only paint in black and white but through this we show the full colour of emotions”
Then after school the members of Japanese Club ranging from Years 7-13 learnt how to draw the kanji (character) for tobu how to fly with calligraphy techniques requiring focus.
Akemi is based in Camberley, Surrey, and offers in person and online calligraphy and art courses for all interested in Japanese culture >>> https://koshujapaneseart.co.uk/
