Bank of England Economist Visits 6th Form
Students studying A Level Economics were visited by Bank of England economist, Zaar Khan, this week.
Zaar works in the Current Economic Conditions Division which analyses data to examine the UK economy with a focus on Nowcasting; the prediction of the present, the very near future, and the very recent past as an economic indicator.
Zaar began his presentation by explaining his post-18 pathway and how his enjoyment of Economics at A Level led to him studying as an undergraduate at The University of Surrey. His degree was 25% Finance and 75% Economics and included a year in industry, where he worked for State Street Global Markets. He completed a Master’s in Economics at UCL before beginning his career at the Bank of England in 2019.
Zaar's presentation linked his knowledge of the UK's central bank to the A Level syllabus and clearly illustrated how the decisions made by The Bank affect the whole of the UK.
We would like to thank Zaar for sharing his knowledge with the A Level students and highlighting the links between the subject and the real-world.
