Following the Sexism, Misogyny & Sexual Harassment Workshop, hear our students' views.

Libby  - Year 12

I think the talk was extremely helpful and allowed us to talk about topics and areas within sexism that are not usually “appropriate” for a school setting. An external speaker gives us more freedom to say things that we wouldn’t usually feel comfortable bringing up by ourselves and that meant that we could speak about the things that are most impactful and prominent at the moment like Andrew Tate, the roots of prejudice built on unfair stereotypes, and the effects of topics that teachers may be uncomfortable talking about like more explicit content. With a topic as widespread as sexual harassment and misogyny I think it’s important that we are given the chance to have serious conversations with a range of different people, not just our friends who will most likely have similar views to us and I think it was beneficial to have a discussion not only about the impact that sexism can have on our daily lives but also what can be done to reduce this problem. It was a very thought provoking talk and I think it will make at least some people think a bit more about their actions.

Ruby - Year 12

I thought the workshop today was very informative and gave a massive overview on many aspects about the topics of sexism and misogyny, and current events happening on social media. I think that feminism and sexual harassment and assault doesn't get spoken about enough, in schools particularly, and I thought it was good to have a workshop on it. I also felt that it did not bash anyone, it was inclusive to everyone and targeted both boys and girls, which is important as girls are not often told what to do or where to find help in certain situations and boys need to be aware of the sexism and harassment that girls receive.
