Central Japan Railway Co. Visit School
We were delighted that the Central Japan Railway Company visited our school this week to show students and teachers how their groundbreaking levitating trains work.
The event was organised in conjunction with the Japan Society and students from our Japanese Club and STEM Club were invited to the presentation.
Our guest speaker explained that their bullet trains currently carry 466,000 passengers each day, reaching speeds of up to 177mph and that their revolutionary Superconducting Maglev technology will soon increase speeds further.
Students and staff were fascinated by the presentation and enjoyed watching a demonstration of the Maglev technology in action.
It will soon be possible to travel between Japan's two major cities, Tokyo and Osaka, in 67 minutes with trains reaching speeds of 311mph. This is thanks to their Superconducting Maglev system which levitates the train above the track when its speed exceeds 93mph, storing the rubber wheels in its body.
We would like to thank the Central Japan Railway Company for sharing their knowledge of this cutting-edge technology and Mr Geaves, who runs the Japanese Club with Mrs King, for organising the event.
