Sixth Form Sing Carols at Care Home
Having a strong ethos of community is one of the fundamental pillars at Charters - be it our own school community or the wider local community that Charters is proud to be a part of. So, when an opportunity came along for our Sixth Formers to be able to spend an evening with the elderly residents at Ascot Grange Care Home, we grabbed it with both hands!
It was a wonderful evening for our Year 12 and 13 students who sang festive Christmas Carols with the residents before spending some valuable time with them, sharing scrumptious Christmas treats and bringing a smile to their faces.
Mrs Singh, Head of Year 12 said, "I am sure that the residents enjoyed our students' company, and it was such a humbling experience to watch our young adults realise their responsibility towards others in society. Being able to volunteer selflessly to make an older person's evening full of joy and festivity is a lovely opportunity to have."
When asked about the motivation behind being involved in the event, some comments were:
“Volunteering an evening at the care home was a great way to get involved in my community whilst having fun with my friends and getting into the Christmas spirit!”- Elena, Year 12
“I wanted to come along to the Carol Singing because I wanted to bring some joy to the people at the care home and uplift the atmosphere there with my friends.” – Mercedes, Year 12
“I go the Care Home every week as part of my enrichment and spending time with the elderly is enjoyable as it makes me realise about my power to do something good for the community. I wanted to spread the Christmas cheer and joy.” – Jasjot, Year 12
