Senior Lecturer in Zoology Hosts Talk for Sixth Form
Charters Sixth Form has developed an Enrichment Programme that sits within our curriculum time for all students to access and enjoy, with the aim to help students students develop a sense of self, learn new skills and challenge themselves to do something new.
This week we were pleased to welcome Dr Pat Morris, a mammalogist who is one of the foremost experts on Hedgehog biology, who hosted a presentation in the Science Lecture Theatre for Year 12 and 13 Biology students.
Until 2002, Dr Morris was the Senior Lecturer in Zoology at Royal Holloway, University of London, and he is a past chairman of the Mammal Society, a member of the Council of the National Trust, chairman of its Nature Conservation Advisory Panel, and president of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
Dr Morris' talk was closely linked to the A Level specification and gave the students a valuable insight into the 'Ecosystems' topic. He spoke about his work around conservation and discussed the scientific methodologies he uses, which will aid our students' understanding of practical skills exam questions.
Just under 70% of Charters' A Level Biology students achieved A* - B grades this summer and the entire Science department has a highly regarded local reputation. This week's lecture is just one example of the enrichment opportunities available at Charters Sixth Form, which help prepare the students for their future.
