This week students in our Learning Support Centre have used their TalkAbout session to focus on Friendship.

The sessions help develop social and emotional communication skills using a programme developed by Alex Kelly (a Speech and Language Therapist) and her husband Brian Sains.

Last week the group considered the qualities that make a good friend, and they continued the theme this week by talking about the most important ingredients of an ideal friend, and how much of each ingredient you need.

They then, (metaphorically of course) mixed together the ingredients they considered paramount to make the perfect friend and created him or her using gingerbread figures, icing and sweets.

Comments about the session:

“I enjoyed decorating the gingerbread friends the most” - Nataniel.

“Making the gingerbread friends and thinking about the ingredients made me think about what to look for in a friend but also how to be a good friend” - Freddie.

“I think loyalty is the most important ingredient for a friend and sticking up for someone when they need you to.  I always do that” - Charlie.
