A Medley of Musical Events This Week
There have been some fantastic music-inspired events over the past week, in which our very talented students had the chance to shine.
SATYAJIT TALWALKAR & WAHANE SISTERS DUET
To start things off, last Friday the Music Department took a small group of students to see a concert of Indian Classical Music at the Barbican in London. The concert was fantastic, the students were able to see a style of music that most had never experienced at all. One student said, "it was interesting to see a different style of music. We're normally used to just hearing western classical music, so it was nice to see something completely different."
AUTUMN CHAMBER CONCERT
On Wednesday evening eleven students took part in the first Chamber Concert of the year. The repertoire was varied, with everything from the Sound of Music to Ein Audi. The performers created some wonderful music, projected confidence and showed themselves to be first-rate musicians. There will be further opportunities for students to perform at these Chamber Concerts in the Spring and Summer; if your child would like to perform please keep an eye for messages from the Music Department.
ARMY BAND SANDHURST
On Thursday afternoon we were visited by members of the Army Band Sandhurst who conducted a workshop with the students from the Senior and Junior Orchestras. The group from the Army Band brought in some more unusual instrument to demonstrate to the students. They also worked to improve the pieces of music that the orchestra will be performing for the Winter Concert on 6 December. The workshop and discussion from the Army personnel was really useful for the students to see where a career in Music can take you.
