Hello Yellow Message from Students
As a Student Leadership Team, we are delighted to be able to once again celebrate #HelloYellow and World Mental Health Day on the 10th October. This is a cause that we are passionate about and proud to be able to support once again at Charters. Awareness of mental health is vital to remove the stigma surrounding it. #HelloYellow, set up by the charity ‘Young Minds’, is one way to initiate conversations about mental health with students.
It is likely that we all will face issues with our own mental health at times in our lives. #HelloYellow is a day to stand up and say that it is ok to not be ok and hopefully start discussions about mental health and what you can do if you are struggling. At Charters we have an excellent system to support students and staff who need it; whether this is a conversation with a tutor or peer, or an email to worried@chartersschool.org.uk.
This year in particular, Charters are proud to have set up Student Lead Support (SLS). The programme is training students so that they are able help their peers who might be struggling with stress or anxiety. Although SLS is currently only running in our Sixth Form, it is something we hope to expand and develop for the lower school in the coming years. This is just one of the progressions we are keen to make in order to support the mental health of students and staff at Charters.
With this in mind, it is only right that Charters leads the charge against the stigma surrounding Mental Health and hopefully encourage you to take up the task of starting conversations. On Monday we invite students to wear a yellow item of clothing as a statement of support for World Mental Health Day.
So please join us in supporting #HelloYellow on the 10th October, raising awareness of mental health and acknowledging that it is okay not to be okay!
