The Surrey County Expedition Challenge
On the weekend of 14/15 May, a team of five from the 1st Windlesham Scout Group, including three Charters' students - Daniel, Ben and Daniel - took part in The Surrey County Expedition Challenge, achieving 2nd place overall out of 26 teams, resulting in them receiving a Gold Award.
The expedition challenge was a two day activity involving hiking and camping (very similar to the Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award expedition). As a team, the scouts had to plan, hike (15k day 1 and 8k day 2), camp and cook for themselves over the weekend. Judges scored them on their efforts on various things including teamwork, resilience and resourcefulness, as well as all their practical skills. They encountered typical British weather with hot sunshine one day followed by downpours the next, but persevered and as one of the youngest teams taking part it was a huge achievement for them to take 2nd place.
Their achievement really embodies our school values of Unity, Respect Excellence.
Very well done to all three students!
