HIGHLIGHTS
YEAR 7 CONCERTS
This week we have had two Year 7 concerts which have been a joy to listen to. Each tutor group sung a song or two as well as taking inspiration from some of our Year 11 GCSE Music students who played as well. These types of events help our students build their confidence as well as teamwork skills, and I even noticed a few of them smiling at points as they sang their hearts out to the audience. The rousing gospel medley was a particular highlight on both evenings.
SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENING
This week we had our Sixth Form Open Evening evening. This event is an important part of the transition for Year 11 students to Post-16 studies. We had over 300 young people come along to speak to staff about the Sixth Form offer we have at Charters. They were able to speak to current students, and Subject Specialist staff, about their own experiences of the Sixth Form lifestyle. This will give all a real focal point as they move towards their Pre-Public Exams (PPEs). Over the coming months, we will be running a series of events to help students with their decision-making process, ranging from individual meetings to discuss applications to taster lessons, as well as facilitating conversations with present Sixth Form students.
Applications to Charters Sixth Form are now open and can be made here. Please note that applications must be received by Friday 8 December.
The students who sat their A Levels examinations this summer are now studying at universities across the UK and overseas. Take a look at the destinations map below to discover where they are studying and what subjects they have chosen:

NOTICES
VAPING
I am sure like us you are concerned about the increasing scientific evidence that is highlighting the harm that vaping is doing to young people. There are countries around the world that are moving towards making vaping illegal. In the UK there are discussions around making it illegal to purchase vapes under the age of 18. We will be asking students via a FORMS survey about their experiences of vaping both in school and outside of school. Like many societal issues, we are not under any illusion that it doesn’t happen in our school. We are approaching this through education and also sanction as we believe that it is a potential major health issue, as this recent BBC report shows https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-67081855
VACANCIES
We have a vacancy for a Midday Supervisor to work Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are happy to consider either one candidate to work all four days, or two candidates to work two days each.
We also have a new vacancy for a PE Administrator/Technician at Charters School.
For further information and to apply, please visit the vacancies page of our school website here.
PRE-LOVED UNIFORM
We will be collecting donations of pre-loved uniform between 3.00pm and 4.00pm next Monday, (16 October) in the outdoor shelter adjacent to the Leisure Centre car park.
We will then be selling the uniform on a 'pay what you feel' basis in the same location next Wednesday, (18 October).
All proceeds will go directly to our Unity Fund and as always, please only donate items that you would be happy for your own child to wear. Thank you.
WEAR RED DAY 2023 (SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD)
We are celebrating Wear Red Day 2023 next Friday, (20 October) with a non-uniform day and are encouraging our school community to dress in red and make a small donation to show their support against racism. The charity Show Racism The Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity who aim to combat racism through enabling role models, who are predominately but not exclusively footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people and others.
A suggested donation of £1 can either be handed to Tutors in registration or paid direct to the charity by using the secure link below:
As a reminder we are a school environment so we please ask that students dress in a respectful manner and appreciate that we are a community of many different ages and faiths. Students should not wear crop tops, short shorts, vest or any clothing that has offensive language or slogans on.
LOST PROPERTY
There will be a lost property table set up outside Student Services next Thursday, (19 October) at second break.
Please encourage your children to take a look as we have a number of ear pods and watches which need to be reunited with their owners.
