NEWSLETTER - 23 JUNE

HIGHLIGHTS

This week has seen the Lower School production of Oliver take place.  The students taking part have thrown themselves into the production wholeheartedly and on Tuesday we had 100 students from three of our local primary schools come along to watch the matinee dress rehearsal.  It was lovely to see them all in school getting a feeling for the facilities and talent we have. You can read more about this outstanding production next week.

The number of school trips we have taking place at the moment is fantastic to see and demonstrates our wider commitment to personal development by creating opportunities for individuals to experience cultural and social events that really impact them.  We will publish the list of trips that have taken place this year by the end of the term.

Students have been building up to Sports Day with qualifying events across the track and field disciplines.  We have some very talented athletes who are shaping up to produce some very good times on the day.

YEAR GROUP COUNCILS

Twitter Standard (2)

Our final Year Group Councils of this academic year focussed on Character and more specifically what Character Traits and Virtues we should be teaching our students.

The focus was around suggested Character Virtues provided by the University of Birmingham Jubilee Centre which students in Years 7-10 and Year 12 had previously discussed with their tutor groups.  The top 8 Character Virtues were selected by each tutor group, and student representatives brought these thoughts and ideas to the Year Group Councils.

The School Council will now discuss these findings as their final topic of this academic year before sharing the student outcomes with the Senior Leadership Team.

TERM DATES 2023 - 2024

The term dates for the next academic year have been on the school website since October 2022.  Please make sure that you check these dates before booking any holidays for next year.  We do not authorise holidays during term time.  These links to pages on our website may be helpful:

TERM DATES

ATTENDANCE

NATIONAL EDUCATION UNION ACTION

The next two days of action have been published by the NEU.  These are Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July.  We will be writing to parents next week to explain what our provision will be on these days.

PARENT SURVEY

Thank you to all the parents/carers who completed the survey.  The information this has given us will enable us to review certain practices, constrictive and thoughtful remarks are always welcome.   We will be looking at the results in detail over the coming weeks and will share with you some common themes that have emerged by the end of the term.

DROPPING OFF PROTOCOL

Please can we remind parents who drop their children off in the Leisure Centre car park in the morning, that this is a staff car park and members of staff need to be able to park to start their working day.  Please be considerate and keep the flow of traffic moving by getting your child to exit your vehicle quickly so that traffic does not build up along Devendish Road.  There is no need for you to park in the car park to drop off your child as this takes up a staff parking space which have been allocated.

Staff are finding it increasingly difficult to access their parking space because of cars either blocking the road or parking in the spaces.

If it is imperative that you must drive your child to school, please do not hang around in the car park unnecessarily.  Ideally, you could drop your child away from the school site and they could have a nice walk in to start their day.

Please can we also remind you that the car park opposite the school is for our Sixth Form students to park in and should not be used as a drop off area. There has been some discourteous behaviour towards our students from parents recently which is not acceptable.

We appreciate the school site is extremely busy in the morning and afternoon, and that is why we strongly encourage students to walk whenever possible.  it has benefits on so many levels.  Thank you for your consideration.

DINNER MONEY TRANSFERS

If your Child is leaving us this summer , but has a sibling in a lower year, please  send an email thought to parentpay@charterschool.org.uk if you’d like the balance transferred to the sibling rather than wait for a refund.

MY AI

At the end of last term we sent you brief information regarding the SnapChat feature called 'My AI'. National Online Safety have now released this online safety guide which explains AI virtual friends in more detail including the positives and potential warning signs. We hope you find this helpful in engaging your child in discussions about AI.

As always if you have any concerns about your child's behaviour online don't hesitate to contact their form tutor or head of year."

FOOD BANK - EVERY TUESDAY

Food
12:00-1:00PM
SHARE Hope Church, Sunningdale
High Street, Sunningdale, SL5 7LY (next to Nag’s Head Pub)

Hate food waste? Come along to Hope Church Sunningdale FOOD BANK, open to ANYONE. We have mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) It would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

We operate a  one (standard size) shopping bag per family policy and use ticketing system to stagger entrance to the food bank. We ask that you enter through the side door. Tea/coffee/biscuits are available from 11:15 and during the food bank. Entrance tickets will be distributed just before the food bank opens at 12:00. We may need to limit some items so there is enough to share with everyone.
