HIGHLIGHTS
The school concert held on Wednesday evening was a joy. The sheer number and diversity of performances that were seen on the evening was testimony to the dedication of the music team and the students. This was followed with Year 7 students having their African Drumming workshops as well. A musical end to the term as a well as a hot one.

When we return to school on Wednesday, students competing in Sports Day will need to wear their PE kit. Students who are not competing can wear PE kit or normal summer school uniform.
On Thursday and Friday students may wear PE kit or normal summer school uniform.
We continue to recommend that students find shade during breaks and do not run around. We have shut the Astro and 3G for this reason. Can you please reinforce at home the importance of looking for shade and remaining hydrated.
SPORTS DAY
It will now take place on Wednesday 22 July. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions to check that the temperature is safe to compete in.
THE IMPORTANCE OF POSITIVE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
At Charters School we have consistently promoted the importance of positive school attendance and the clear effect that it can have on a student’s education. Over the past couple of years there have been a significant number of challenges for us all to face, but a lot of evidence remains to illustrate that attending school regularly has a positive impact on student academic achievement and overall wellbeing.
Please have a look at the entire report here.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT LESSONS
Personal Development lessons next academic year will run every Monday P1 for all students in all year groups.
In order to enable the best access to many of the resources and platforms we use such as Unifrog and PiXL Edge, we would actively encourage students to bring a device such as a laptop or ipad (not a mobile phone) to support their learning in these sessions.
Students would need to know how to log their own device onto WiFi as we would not be able to provide individual technical support on site and students would be responsible for their own devices so we would advise bringing them in a protective case and not leaving them unattended during the school day.
We do run a laptop loan scheme for families who qualify for Free School Meals where their child does not have access to a personal device to use at home. If this applies to you and you would like more information on the scheme please contact Mrs Henly c.henly@chartersschool.org.uk
WATER SAFETY
As we near the summer break we have been sent two resources from Thames Valley Police regarding water safety. The first is a website from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service which outlines how young people should keep themselves safe around water, and the second is a video from the RNLI which outlines some survival techniques if you fall in to cold water.
As you know often young people can appear blasé about the very obvious dangers here, so we would appreciate it if you could discuss the content here with your sons and daughters.
TRIPS AND VISITS 2022-2023
The trips and visit calendar for next academic year can be found here
EQUIPMENT LIST FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR
We expect all students to have the following equipment with them at all times in school, some summer sales are starting, so it might be a good time to get this equipment earlier before the rush.
UNIFORM 2022-23
Parents, please do remind yourself of the uniform expectations before buying. A very simple message is that trainers of any colour are not part of the school uniform. A full list of uniform expectations can be found here
ONLINE SAFETY
As we move towards the Summer holidays, we thought we would share the following information regarding parental controls on age restrictions on social Media. The link can be found here The Summer break presents an extended period of time when students may be on their phones for long periods of time. We urge you to make sure that you check the content of their phone to safeguard against harmful material or content.
