HIGHLIGHTS
The revision session organised by Miss Torlop for Year 11 was a great success this week. Students spent the day off timetable being supported by an external company in reinforcing revision tips and ideas. In addition to this, a session was run on wellbeing as the students build towards the main examination period in the summer. The day was a great success and was followed up in the evening with an information meeting for Year 11 parents/carers which covered aspects of the sessions run during the day.
A PowerPoint explaining how to help your child revise at home can be found here. If you need any further information, please contact their subject teacher or if a general issue, Mr Hancock the Head of Year 11.
I spoke to one of the catering staff earlier in the week, who pointed out how wonderful members of the Sixth Form had been helping her. She highlighted how kind and caring they had been supporting her when it was very busy. It is a small act of kindness that has a huge impact on the individual.
MASKS
In line with the Government, announcements students do not need to wear masks in classrooms anymore. From Thursday, January 27, students will no longer be required to wear masks in communal spaces in the school. This will therefore mean that staff and students will not have to wear a mask on the school site unless they choose to do so.
Rates of Covid in school have reduced in line with the regional data, which is very encouraging to see, and I would like to thank all in our community who have supported the measures we have had in place to keep the school open.
We are certainly not clear from the possibility of rates of infection rates rising again. As such, I asked that basic hand hygiene alongside the use of disposal of tissues in bins be encouraged to help mitigate against the spread in school. We certainly do not want to go back to wearing masks again in the school environment but will if we need to.
RETURNING TO SCHOOL AFTER SELF-ISOLATION
Please can we remind parents/carer that students are able to return to school following a period of self-isolation after 5 full days only if they have provided the school with evidence of two negative lateral flow device (LFD) tests taken 24 hours apart. Please remember day 0 is considered to be the first day that a positive LFD test is recorded.
Students who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after five full days if they test negative with a LFD test on both day 5 and day 6, and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to school immediately on day 6.
The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.
If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.
Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.
The government emails you receive acknowledging the report of a test result should be emailed onto attendance@chartersschool.org.uk before your child arrives on site. This will help prevent them being removed from class and phone calls home whilst we determine whether or not they should be back in school.

'Adventure in Pantoland' is a traditional pantomime with a twist. It takes us on an enchanting, light-hearted journey through some of the best-loved pantomime stories as our favourite characters try to outwit the wicked witch and her hapless side-kick , in their search for a happy ending. With all the usual pantomime tomfoolery and plenty of singing and dancing, you can expect to see a dame, a fool, a hero and princess or two, and of course a good fairy to help everyone along the way!
