HEADTEACHER'S HIGHLIGHTS
This week has seen the publication of the new school newspaper, The Charters Chronicle. This is even more pleasing as it has been entirely student-led. In March last year, one of the Year 11 students, Isla, now in the Sixth Form, asked if she could set up and run a school newspaper when she returned in September. With a group of students from across the school, Isla has written articles and worked to deadlines learning a great deal about teamwork, collaboration and working to deadlines. It will help them work towards their PIXL EDGE certification as well. If you are interested in finding more out about the EDGDE programme, follow the link here
They have tackled some crucial issues across society and reported on school events. You can read the first edition of the newspaper in the featured article below.
I would like to wish you all a restful Christmas break and a happy New Year.
NEWS ROUND-UP
THE CHARTERS CHRONICLE
It has been another busy term with students engaging well with the PiXl Edge programme. The Year 7s have made a fantastic start and many are well on the way to achieving the Apprentice accreditation later in the year. Some of our older students who are Student Edge Ambassadors have been sharing their top tips and working with tutor groups throughout the school. It’s also fantastic to see one of our Masters’ level students, Isla, leading the way with the ‘Charters Chronicle’ newspaper - an initiative which forms part of her Edge work. Please click here for a list of students who have been accredited this term. Some of the talented 'News team' who created the Charters Chronicle are pictured above and to read this inaugural publication, please click below:

CHRISTMAS LUNCH
Although there's a lot of gloomy news around, there's still plenty to smile about at Charters! Everyone got into the festive mood on Monday when our Christmas lunch took place.
From the wonderful catering staff who prepare the freshest ingredients each day to the Senior Leadership Team who checked the students in, we felt just a bit more Christmassy as every cracker was pulled, joke was read and mouthful was eaten.
JUMPER DAY FUNDRAISING TOTAL
We are pleased to report that we raised a total of £263 last Friday for Save the Children’s ‘Christmas Jumper Day’.
The charity explains on their website that the fun event gives children around the world the chance to grow up healthy and happy, and change the future for good. To put thing into perspective, £2 could pay for a bottle of hand sanitiser to help fight coronavirus in a Save the Children medical clinic, whilst £20 could pay for a back-to-school kit for a child in Indonesia.
Thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful cause. To read more please click here.
FESTIVE FUNDRAISING ROUND-UP
Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising campaigns this term. We are truly humbled by the support we have received from parents, carers and our wider school community.
We will leave the Wish Lists and AV1 campaigns open until we return to school in the new year and will update you on the final totals in January.

NOTICES
RETURN TO SCHOOL 5 JANUARY 2022
When students return in January, we will be carrying out testing on 5 January. We would ask that students also test at home the night before coming in. Any students testing positive in school on January 5 will be sent home and will need to take a PCR test. This is an important extra layer of protection to keep the school as safe as possible.
- Students will be expected to wear masks in all indoor spaces and when queueing in close proximity outside
- Students will need to make sure that they are using hand sanitiser and follow basic hygiene rules at all times
- Students will be allowed to, if the teacher deems the room cold enough, wear coats in classrooms although we would ask that skins and school jumpers be worn instead
SOCIAL MEDIA
As we move to the Christmas break, we continue to remind students about their use of social media. As we all know, social media can be destructive and constructive. It is important also to remind students that what you post is there forever. Some recent high profile cases have shown how historic posts have created issues for individuals, a lesson for us all, not just the students in school.
We would encourage you to speak to your son/daughter about how they interact on social media and, indeed, where you can check their social media accounts, especially for younger students. This will also help safeguard them against unwanted and hurtful/harmful posts.
MOBILE PHONES
Can you remind your son/daughter that mobile phones need to be switched off and in bags when they return to school in January. The policy has worked, leading to less distracted in lessons due to vibrating phones.
MOST RECENT ADVICE RE TESTING 14 DECEMBER 2021
Adults who are fully vaccinated and all children and young people aged between 5 to 18 years and 6 months identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19, are strongly advised to take a lateral flow device (LFD) test every day for 7 days and continue to attend their setting as normal, unless they have a positive test result. If an individual tests positive they will need to take a PCR test, you can book here. While you are waiting for the result you must isolate. If the PCR test is positive then the individual will have to self-isolate for 10 days. If the PCR test is negative then there is no need to self-isolate but they should continue to self-test.
All students have been offered the 7 days test kits to take home from school. If they have not been collected or brought home they can be ordered from here
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN NEEDED
We are looking for a technician to support preparation of resources for the practical projects in Design Technology. Do you know anyone who is hands on and willing to help? Whether it's a few hours or 5 days a week, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact j.bennie@chartersschool.org.uk for more information.
A full list of all our current vacancies can be found each week at the end of the Newsletter.
FIRST AID AND MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION
We shall shortly be introducing an electronic data management system for First Aid and medication administration called Medical Tracker. This will help streamline our processes when dealing with illness or injury and enable us to contact you more easily to ensure your child’s medical records are up to date. The system will also enable us to provide additional information, where appropriate, for medical incidences, for example concussion.
Medical Tracker will allow us both to record illness and injury and to analyse the information recorded. It will also be used to record medication we administer on your behalf to your child.
The system will call on student data, including medical detail, and parent contact details, that is already held in our School Information Management System. More information on how we share data and our reasons for processing can be found in our Privacy Notice for Students and their Families.
When we start using Medical Tracker early in 2022, email messages will be sent from
donotreply@medicaltracker.co.uk
Please add this address to your email address books (or approved sender list) to prevent messages from being blocked by your Spam/Junk filters.

ADVENTURES IN PANTOLAND
The Quince Players are very excited to be back at the Cordes Hall, Sunninghill in January, with our pantomime, Adventure in Pantoland. Shows will be held on 13 - 16 and 20 - 22 of January . Please click here for full details of dates and times.
'Adventure in Pantoland' is a traditional pantomime with a twist. It takes us on an enchanting, light-hearted journey through some of the best-loved pantomime stories as our favourite characters try to outwit the wicked witch and her hapless side-kick , in their search for a happy ending. With all the usual pantomime tomfoolery and plenty of singing and dancing, you can expect to see a dame, a fool, a hero and princess or two, and of course a good fairy to help everyone along the way!
We would be delighted to see lots of friendly faces in the audience, so please book your tickets and you can look forward to a fun, local show to blow away those January blues! You can easily book online via ticketsource.co.uk/quinceplayers or ticket forms can be collected and dropped at Inspirations on Sunninghill High Street. Better still - would you like to win some tickets?
We have 4 tickets to give away, worth £56! Our characters venture through some very familiar panto lands to find out where they belong – simply guess which 5 pantomimes they visit, send your answers in an email to qp.panto@gmail.com and you could be the lucky winner! The competition will close on 23 December and the winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries we receive by that date. The winner will be notified by return email on 24 December and details will be posted on the Quince Players website – just in time for Christmas! Could it be Aladdin, Robin Hood, Beauty and the Beast, Dick Whittington, Cinderella? There are lots to choose from, but you decide which 5 you think are in our pantomime. We look forward to receiving your entries!
Good luck and best wishes from the Quince Players Panto Team
