HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Without a doubt, this has to be the school production Legally Blonde - The Musical. It has been wonderful to see how the show has built over time, from auditions, rehearsals, flash mobs, costume and set design to final WOW. Like any production, it has brought a sense of unity for all taking part and respect from those who are watching due to the excellence in all aspects of the production. It is even more satisfying this year as we haven’t had a production for two years because of the pandemic. A big thank you to all who have taken part; students and staff. Also thank you to all the parents and carers who have supported students from helping them to learn lines, to pick up and drop offs for extra rehearsals and coming along to watch. By the end of the matinee show tomorrow, over 700 people will have seen the show. Another example of how creative and dedicated our students and staff are.
WISH LISTS
As the days grow colder and the shops become increasingly more festive, we are launching out Department Wish Lists!
Each department has put together a range of items that would help to enhance the curriculum and bring the syllabus alive for their students.
Last year, the generosity of our wider community raised £3580 to enhance the resources within departments.
We are extremely grateful for every 'Wish' that you grant and a complete list of ‘Wishes’ can be viewed here.
Thank you and merry Christmas.
ECONOMIST TALK
On Wednesday, renowned economist Jonathan Haskel presented a talk to our A level Economics students regarding his work for the Bank of England and the Monetary Policy Committee. The presentation took place virtually over Teams and enabled Jonathan to discuss interest rates, (how they are set and the impact they have in inflation), the financial crash and quantitative easing. Jonathan shared a number of insightful slides with the students before concluding the presentation with a lively Q&A session. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students and we hope it has inspired some of them to consider a career in the financial sector.
ASTHMA-FRIENDLY HOUSEPLANTS
Mr Boyce, Subject Leader for Chemistry, was delighted to receive these Asthma-Friendly Houseplants from a Year 7 student this week. Plants absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen and also behave as natural humidifiers by releasing moisture into the air. We’re looking forward to seeing how they grow!

Staff from across the school have been taking on the English Department's challenge to answer 20 rapid-fire questions on a recent read. LEGALLY BLONDE - THE MUSICAL
After two years without being able to run productions, we wanted to come back with a bang and the students have absolutely delivered with the production of Legally Blonde the Musical! The students have worked tirelessly during rehearsals to bring their characters to life, to perfect their songs and to master the choreography. As well as the cast on stage, we have students playing in the orchestra, operating the lighting, sound and managing backstage. This really is a whole school effort displaying the amazing talent that we have here at Charters School. A special thanks should go to Ms Anderson, (Director of Music at Charters), Mrs Ring, (Head of Drama), and Miss Hamilton-Eadie, (Head of Dance) for their hard work and dedication in bringing this project alive.
HOUSE CAPTAINS
Last week the new House Captains were selected and announced. They held their first meeting on Odd Sock Day for Anti-Bullying Week and showed their support by wearing appropriate hosiery!

RUN LIKE A GIRL
We were incredibly proud to receive a copy of the inspiring book, ‘Run Like a Girl,’ this week from one of our former students. Sophie Christiansen, who has represented Great Britain in four Paralympic games and won a staggering eight gold medals, kindly sent us a copy of the book which features biographical stories about 50 of the world's top female athletes. Sophie’s section explains the sheer hard word and determination that was needed from her to climb to the very top of the equestrian arena. The book is now in our Library and I would encourage students to take a look and be inspired for themselves.
PIXL EDGE AND GREEN EDGE
Year 7 Students have made a fantastic start to the Edge programme, working hard on their LORIC activities and are well on the way to reaching their Apprentice certification. We are also delighted to re-start the work of our Edge Student Ambassadors - students who are working with the younger year groups to share their experiences and support them with writing up activities. Coming soon, there will also be the opportunity for students to take part in a new initiative which sits alongside the Edge programme and allows environmentally conscious young people to make a real difference and get an accreditation at the same time.

GP SURVEY
Healthwatch East Berkshire (Slough, Bracknell Forest, Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead) have just launched a survey asking the public to share their experiences of accessing GP (General Practice) services in the last 6 months. They want to hear as many experiences of accessing GP services as possible so they can help the NHS understand what is working well and what could be better. The results of this survey will be shared with NHS Services and organisations to help to shape the way services are delivered in the future. You can read more about the survey and the wider project here: Slough, Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead, Bracknell Forest.
